NOTES

Consistent Action on Snook, Reds & Trout

Tampa Bay - Pinellas, FL

The inshore bite around Bay Pines is heating up as we roll into early summer. Anglers are seeing solid action across a range of species, especially in the early morning and late afternoon windows.

Snook are active along the mangrove edges, seawalls, and residential docks. Live pilchards, threadfins, and even cut bait have been drawing strikes, especially on moving tides. If you’re sight casting along the shallows, soft plastics and topwater lures at sunrise are producing aggressive hits.

Redfish are showing up in small pods on grass flats and around oyster bars, particularly during higher tides. They’ve been responsive to cut mullet and shrimp under popping corks. A slow presentation is key in the warmer water.

Spotted seatrout are holding steady on deeper grass flats, especially in 3–5 feet of water. Look for clean water with some tidal flow. MirrOlures and soft jigs have been doing the trick, especially in white or chartreuse.

Mangrove snapper are thick around structure—bridges, docks, and rock piles. A simple freelined live shrimp near pilings is often all it takes to limit out. The snapper bite tends to pick up as the tide begins to move.

Water temps are creeping into the mid-80s, so fishing the cooler parts of the day is your best bet. Keep an eye on the tides and try to time your outings around peak movement for the most consistent action.

If you're fishing from shore, local seawalls and small piers near Bay Pines Park and the VA area are still producing solid catches—just bring patience and some live bait.
